Film-based media is destroyed by a three step process.
The first step involves shredding/chipping/pulverizing the film including its
container unless it is metallic into small unreadable flakes. After the film
has completed the first step in the destruction sequence, it is processed a
second time to remove any silver. This step is crucial, because it renders the
film clear and devoid of any image including those created by silverless processes, e.g. diazo
and vesicular films. Finally, the clear film base is further recycled for use
in new products, while any reclaimed silver is refined for reuse.
Magnetic media is degaussed and pulverized. The
pulverized material may be further recycled or disposed of in an approved
manner.
Optical media including videotape is pulverized.
The pulverized material may be further recycled or disposed of in an approved
manner.
Paper is shredded and baled. The pulverized
material may be further recycled or disposed of in an approved manner.
MetalQuest
will provide secure containers of disposing of the media. Typically, 55 gallon barrels
are used with locking tops. The lid has a slot and the slot may be secured with
a small locking door. Once filled the barrels can weigh as much as 300 pounds
depending on the media type and how the material settled. If preferred, MetalQuest staff will pack and remove larger quantities of
media thus freeing staff for other more important tasks.
MetalQuest
will arrange for the transportation of the containers from your site to our
facility. Of course, you may arrange the freight, too.
